For the Filling:

24 oz. fresh blackberries rinsed
1 cup white sugar
3 tbsp. cornstarch
3/4 cup water

For the Topping:

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tbsp. white sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup 1 stick chilled unsalted butter, chopped finely
1/3 cup buttermilk

 

Instructions  :

1 . Preheat oven to 350F and spray an 8 x 8 inch baking pan with baking spray.
2 . Combine blackberries and sugar in a large saucepan over medium-high heat and cook until mixture begins to bubble, stirring occasionally.
3 . In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water until combined and add to the saucepan.
4 . Stir and bring mixture to a low boil. Let cook for about 3-5 minutes, until filling has thickened.
5 . Pour filling into the prepared baking pan and set aside. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, Use a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
